Original Sweetgrass

Sweetgrass grows in North American swamps. It is used traditionally as one of the most important components in healing ceremonies to purify and sanctify a place or people. Sweetgrass is braided. It is held by one end while the other end is lit and fanned with a hand fan during the smoke ceremony.

For burning, the braid is held by one side, then ignited and fanned with air at the other side.
