The burning of herbs and resins in various ways is part of many old traditions on our planet. The fire acts, in contrast to evaporation, as a mediator and transformer. Gross substances are transformed into smoke, which then carries the essence onto a subtle level. A connection with higher and subtler levels is therefore created. The purpose of the smoke was and is to connect our daily thinking with the perception of subtler, less visible realms.
